Social Media & Technology CYP

Welcome To Global Therapy Training (GTT)

Why are young people and adults today so attached to their phones? What makes getting likes on platforms like Facebook and Instagram so significant? Are these questions you've pondered as a parent or educator? If so, I may have some insights to share.

As a professional who works extensively with children and young people, I initially found this phenomenon perplexing. What does it really mean to receive likes on a post? Many young individuals derive their sense of validation from the number of shares or comments rather than their personal achievements.

This new generation, raised in the age of social media, is entering adulthood with limited preparation for life beyond the classroom. Today’s youth don’t have to wait for anything—whether it's ordering from Amazon Prime for next-day delivery or bingeing an entire season of their favorite show in one sitting. This instant gratification means they often struggle with patience and resilience, skills that are crucial for future success in the workplace and in social situations.

It’s important to recognize that this isn’t the fault of young people; it’s simply the world they were born into, and they navigate it without choice. I came across an insightful speaker who discusses how modern technology and social media create a sheltered and, at times, unrealistic environment for young individuals.

I encourage you to check out the link below, which offers a clear explanation of the impact of social media and technology on today’s youth.
